Deze week kwam ik per soort van toeval nog eens uit op mijn Goodreads-recensie van het eerste boek uit de recent verfilmde Vampire Academy-reeks. Echt gek om terug te lezen wat voor een bloedhekel (haha, bloed, vampieren … haha?) ik had aan Rose in deel 1! Ik gaf dit boek dan ook amper twee sterretjes.

Rose’s character development gaat gelukkig als een trein vooruit en in de laatste drie boeken is ze gewoon de perfecte dhampir-heldin. Ik kan me zelfs niet meer inbeelden dat ik haar ooit anders gezien heb dan dat! Vier sterretjes gaf ik aan het laatste boek in de reeks, Last Sacrifice (zie recensie hier).

Maar hoe hard ik Rose haatte in deel 1, dat kan je dus lezen in deze ‘Van onder ‘t stof’-recensie!

Recensie van onder ‘t stof: 

Congratulations Rose Hathaway, you are now my second-to-one least favorite female YA-protagonist! (First place still being reserved for Nora Grey from Hush Hush, that is)
Rose deserves this highly placed spot on my short dislike-list due to her constantly referring to herself as being the hottest dhampire girl who like, ever roamed the halls of Sint-Vladimir, omigosh. Oh, and she messes around with any hot guy she can get her hands on, but she flips out when being called a slut. Or a bloodwhore – which she (by definition at least) kind of is as well.
Good thing Dimitri’s there to teach the girl some manners. I have to admit I enjoyed there forbidden romance (gosh, I’m such a sucker for those …) And Rose does grow less annoying towards the end of the book. The development of her character definitely went in the right direction, but she really had me rolling my eyes the first few chapters and I haven’t quite forgiven her for that. 
The overall story wasn’t too bad though. Entertaining, at least. And the writing is fun, honest and easy to read. I bought the first three books in the series in a discount-pack so I’ll read them anyways and hope that Rose gradually earns my respect and appreciation in Frostbite and Shadowkiss.

Hebben jullie dat ook wel eens, dat een personage ‘sorta grows on you’? Of dat je deel 1 in een reeks maar niets vond, maar het geleidelijk aan beterde?
